An official greenlit for the upcoming Overlord season 5 of the popular dark fantasy anime series. Through a reputable leaker from the anime industry, Sugoi Lite, announced the news in September 2024 that left fans excited worldwide. The animation will likely be done by Studio Madhouse, who produced all the previous seasons.​​
When Will Season 5 Arrive?
Although there is no official release date as of December 2025, the majority of anime experts would expect it to be premiere in late 2026. There may be many reasons for the delay such as waiting on source material, namely light novel volumes 17 and 18 by author Kugane Maruyama. There are usually three volumes that are being adapted from the previous seasons and this means that all the source material should be available before the studio begins to do full production.​

The new season will promise you more screen time for fans’ favorite floor guardians such as Albedo, Demiurge, and the twin dark elves Aura and Mare. As Maruyama is aiming to end the light novel series at volume 18, Season 5 may be the grand finale that concludes the world dominance of Ainz.​

Production Challenges and Schedule
The primary reason for the long wait is the lack of full source material. Volumes 17 and 18 are still unreleased, and Maruyama usually needs 5-6 months after getting a manuscript to put it into publication. Also volumes 15 and 16 are dialogue-heavy and require attention to detail to balance the pacing and action sequences.​
The Studio Madhouse has been busy with other works such as the Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom movie released in 2024. This theatrical adaptation is based on books 12 and 13 that fills the gap between Season 4 and the upcoming fifth installment.​
