Rainy Day Essay 500+ Words | Rainy Season Essay

I have written a rainy day essay for class 4, 5, 6 to 10th, also write about, How did you spend a Rainy Day?

It was mid-July; the weather had been dry so far. The day was excessively hot and sultry. The sky was bright blue and cloudless and the blazing sun poured its scorching heat on the already parched earth. Everyone is perspired from head to foot. The air was still and not a leaf stirred. I could feel that it was a lull before the storm.

All of sudden, dark black cloud appeared in the sky. The distant thundering of clouds could be heard and flashing of lightning seen. Soon a gale began to blow and the sky was thick with dust. The cloud of dust blinded the eyes and roars of thunder deafened the ear. The tree shook and the wind howled. I was walking on the road-side and making haste to reach home. I was caught in the storm.

Soon it began to rain heavily. I had no umbrella with me, and even if I had, it had given me no protection. I was overtaken by the traffic downpour. The rain fell in sheets. I ran to the nearest shelter but was drenched to the skin. It rained continuously for four hours. I watched the rain with delight. Everyone welcomed it as it gave relief from the burning heat of summer.

What amused me most was the disordered haste caused by the sudden downpour. I found people fleeing in all direction for the search of shelter. The place became muddy, the foot of a very fat man slipped and he rolled on his belly in the pool of dirty water. The boys burst into peals of laughter on seeing the man rolling like a log of wood. There was some well-dressed person running like schoolboys to save their clothes from the splash of mud. Some well-to-ladies were walking with measured steps in-spite of heavy rain. They too would have taken to running, had their high heeled shoes allowed them to do so.

After a couple of hours, the fury of the rain was lessened. The streets were turned into regular streams. The drain overflowed. At certain places, the water was knee-deep. Children ran about naked in the street. They floated paper-boats and made merry. The air became cool and pleasant. The rain made the road muddy. I wadded through a pool of water and hastened to my place. Mother was anxiously waiting for me at the door. I changed my clothes and did full justice to the tea that was ready.

At about four in the afternoon, it again began to drizzle. The drizzle soon became a shower and a shower a heavy downpour. I waited in the reading room for the rain to stop. To while my time, I looked through magazines.
